What's your favorite color?

Funny, I'd never say that blue was my favorite color, but this morning as I was straightening up, I noticed this little scenario on my bed:

I've got two blue quilts folded, ready to be put away on top of a blue quilt in a blue room. Wow! Maybe I better rethink what my favorite color is? I think a lot about color as a quilter, as I'm sure you do. I am always looking for color combinations that I think would be interesting to work with. I've noticed recently that I am falling back to blue over and over. I wonder what that says about me? With three teenage kids, my life is anything but peaceful. Maybe that's why I'm turning to blue in my art - the most peaceful and calming of the colors!

A fun place to get color inspiration is furniture/home dec stores. They are usually on top of what's trendy and current. I signed up for emails from a few of my favorite stores - Crate & Barrel, Pottery Barn and Pier One. Instead of shopping for bargains, though, I'm looking at the colors they are touting as popular this season. It's a fun way to jump start some color ideas.

  1. hehe :) Blue is my favorite color, too, but I'm thoroughly sick of it at the moment - coming out of the far end of doing 4 big quilts with plenty of gorgeous blue.

  2. My favorite color--since childhood--is red. I use a lot of it in my quilts, but I have never made one of those all-red-and-white ones. On my to-do list. I always thought I was "not a blue person," but lately I've been craving blue. Perhaps it is the relaxing, cool, calming effect that we need in our lives. I am working on three hand quilting projects right now, and two are blue. I will post the pix on quiltstoriescynthia.blogspot.com

  3. I like blue a lot too, and use it in my quilts. I would love to see the top quilt. You are right, ideas are everywhere, and catalogs are a great way to them to come to your door.

  5. Hi Shasta,
The top quilt is from my first book: Grapefruit Juice and Sugar. The block is called Ratchet Wheel. I'll see if I can find a picture of it and post it next week. I wonder where they are!

  6. I didn't realize until I had two tubs of turquoise and was buying another little piece of turquoise when I could only get ONE thing at the shop...I thought I liked PINK best! I still wonder if maybe I just use the pink faster? I only have a handful of red.

  7. Oooh! I love turquoise too! But then again, it's a blue! I wonder why some of us deny what our favorite color really is?
