Block 12 - Winged SquareI decided to add a level of difficulty we haven't had yet to this week's block! And don't worry, I don't plan on putting too many zingers like this in the quilt! But sometimes I'm just in the mood for precision piecing and honestly, you really learn a lot about accuracy when working with miniature piecing!
I chose a busy light print for the background and a green print for the triangles. A red solid is the compliment. I decided that all the blocks for December will be red and green. I'm not usually so festive, but what the heck, right? And wait till you see the Christmas block! It's so adorable, and not applique!
From the background, cut 12 - 2" squares AND 2 - 2 1/2" squares.
From the green print, cut 12 - 2" squares
From the red solid, cut 1 - 2 1/2" square
Here's the fabrics. The light is a Barbara Brackman Old Fashioned Calico print, the green is vintage and the red is Kona. I chose prints for the HSTs to hide imperfect points.
Look Ma, no line!
Here they are sewn 1/4" from the invisible line. Cut apart on the diagonal and press to the dark.
Trim to 1 1/2". You'll feel so good when you get to this point!
Lay out the units in groups of 4s, making sure all the greens are pointing in the same direction.
Sew together as a 4-patch. Make 6.
Lay out all the units as it will look in the finished block. Make sure the green are pointing in the right direction. See how the bottom ones are opposite of the top ones?
I'm sure this has a name, I just can't think of it off the top of my head. Does anyone know?
