Block 23 - Chinese CoinsThis block has got to be the Modern Quilter's go-to block. It is just perfect - wedges of any size, scraps of all colors and interesting to look at all in one little design! Fabulous!
This is another scrap-user, so dig out all those little pieces you've been saving, but you don't know why!
Here's the pile of my MM fabrics. I'm over-running the bin a little bit!
I dug through it all and made piles of orange solids, gray solids, orange prints, blues and scraps.
From there, I pulled a variety of each. Make sure your scraps are at least 2 1/2" wide. 3" would be better for squaring up. Cut them randomly into wedges. Make your tapers from about 1 1/2" down to 1/2" or so. Make some fatter and some skinnier.
Once your three columns are sewn, square them up to 2 1/2" x 6 1/2". Sew them together, pressing seams to one side. Your block should be 6 1/2" unfinished.
