Block 30 - Square
There isn't any change from Modern block to the Traditional block - except for color choices! And just like yesterday, I have an example to show you here. I can't find just an image of the quilt, but look on the cover of this book by Barbara Brackman and you'll see it. Look how it is this same block, but by alternating the lights and darks it takes on a movement on its own! I love that! Wouldn't a quilt like this be fun in pastels for a baby quilt?
I chose two purples, a light print and a dark solid for my block.
- From the light purple print, cut 1 - 4/12" square
- From the dark purple solid, cut 2 - 1 1/2" x 4 1/2" strips AND 2 - 1 1/2" x 6 1/2" strips
|Lay out the short strips on the sides and the long strips on the top and bottom.|
|Sew the side strips on first, pressing to the dark. Repeat with the top and bottom strips. Press. Your block will be 6 1/2".|
