Traditional Tuesday - Block 31

No Name Block (Or Q is for Quilt)
Block 31 - No Name Block
So many, many things went wrong with this week's block - it was almost comical! First, as you read yesterday, I repeated a block. This is the same as Block 10, Snowball Variation. I can't say it won't happen again, but I'll try harder to prevent it! So after thinking it over I decided to keep it in rather than replacing it. Then after sewing the Traditional version seen above, I realized I sewed it all wrong. But, as serendipity would have it, it looks like a "Q" to me. I thought that was appropriate, so again, I decided to leave it. By this point, I was afraid to fix it because something else might go wrong! So roll with it along with me and next week will be better!

It's still April, so it's still purple! I chose a super-dark print, a light print and a solid yellow.

  • From the dark purple, cut 4 - 2 1/2" squares AND 2 - 2 7/8"* squares
  • From the yellow, cut 2 - 2 7/8"* squares
  • From the light purple, cut 1 - 2 1/2" square

*I make mine big and cut them down, so I cut mine 3". Do what makes you happy.
The fabrics. I like the yellow with purple.
Here's the cut fabrics, sort of laid out.
First make your HSTs. Finger press a seam on the diagonal on the 2 yellow squares and stack, right sides together, with the 2 large purple squares. Sew 1 /4" from either side of the diagonal line.
Cut apart on the diagonal and press open to the dark. Trim off the dog ears or trim to 2 1/2" if you cut your squares 3".
Lay out the pieces and sew together like a 9-patch block. Your block will be 6 1/2".
