Block 58 - Bear Paw
The Bear Paw block is really made of 4 of these units with sashing and a corner stone in the center, but since that would involve a LOT of miniature piecing to fit on a 6" block, I thought it best to just do one paw. From the print, cut
1 - 4 1/2" square
2 - 2 7/8" squares*
From the black, cut
2 - 2 7/8" squares*
1 - 2 1/2" square
*As always, I cut mine 3" square to have some wiggle room.
Here's the cut pieces. Using the print and black squares, make 4 - 2 1/2" half square triangles. |
Lay out the pieces. It's easy to get the toes going the wrong direction, so pay attention to those. |
Sew the half-square units into pairs. Make sure they are opposite as shown. |
Sew the 2 1/2" black square to the top end of the pair on the left. Press to the black. |
Sew the pair on top to the print square. Press to the square. To finish, sew the 2 units together. The block will be 6 1/2". |
